The 2nd Annual Cuban Sandwich Festival
Was held @ Ybor City Saturday Market, Centennial Park in Historic Ybor City @
1800 E. 8th Street, Saturday March 30th 2013; 10:30AM–5:30 PM;

The biggest names in Florida’s communities re-united and joined efforts in celebration of Florida’s Rich Cultural Food and History!  

Record breaking crowds attended the 2nd Annual Cuban Sandwich Festival, with many projecting a crowd of 5,000 people in attendance! (see: WFLA NewsChannel 8 “hugely successful.” Go to

An exciting FREE COMMUNITY event the “Cuban Sandwich Festival” celebrated the richness of Florida’s cultural communities! The Cuban Sandwich Festival is an exciting festival and contest to find THE BEST Traditional and non-Traditional Cuban Sandwiches in Florida and beyond, and that is exactly what we did this Saturday at the annual competition!

Guest were able to enjoy LIVE cultural music on La Bahia Stage featuring dance performances, Local Salsa Sensation: Sol Caribe, and International Tropical Performer: Juan Esteban, performed his BUM, BUM, BUM 11 Weeks on the TOP 10 Billboards  

A true cultural festival featuring over 75 Food, Art & Cultural Exhibitors!

Hosted By: ABC Action News, Lissette Campos-Perez, Tony Morejon and Carlos Jose Peralta of Bahia Radio.   20 Florida Restaurants competed for the change to be called the BEST Cuban Sandwich!  

Competing Restaurants Included:

Faedos on The Go!, Stone Soup Company,
Danny’s All American Diner, La Teresita, Sabroso Cuban Restaurant, Country Market & Deli, Docho’s, Mr. Empanada, Moe’s Hot Dogs, The Floridian (Ran out of food before the competition), Alessi Bakery, Papa Joe’s Sub Shop, Murrays Chicago Style, NY Café, Pipo’s Cuban Café, Datz Deli (ran out of food before the competition), Ruben’s Cubans

And The Winners Were:  
Traditional Cuban Sandwich: 
1st Place Winner ” Faedo’s on the Go 
2nd Place Winner “Dochos” 
3rd Place Winner “Papa Joe’s”

Non-Traditional Cuban Sandwich: 
1st Place Winner ” Faedo’s on the Go” 
2nd Place Winner “Moe’s Hot Dogs” 
3rd Place Winner Country Market and Deli

“POPULAR VOTE” (Occurred via text messaging on Saturday, March 30th between 12 noon and 2:00 PM.) These votes had to be manually counted on Sunday and Monday.

1st Place Winner- Stone Soup Company
2nd Place Winner-Country Market and Deli
3rd Place Winner- Rueben’s Cubans

‘Best Cuban sandwich’ decided in Ybor City

Radio personality Jack Harris walked around the courtyard next to the Ybor City Museum on Saturday with the glazed look of someone who had eaten too much. That because Harris, host of WFLA (970 AM)’s morning talk show, did eat too much. “I think I’ve had my fill of Cuban sandwiches for the next three years,” Harris said.
